Food doesn't get any fresher

by Zoe Hart

I got to see Ibrahim slaughter one of our Chickens for dinner tonight. It was actually really interesting. To see the process of killing, removing the skin, carefully removing each organ, saving the heart and the liver for themselves to eat, and then cleaning the rest.

Ibrahim told me that the Snow Leapords would eat the remnants. It is kind of cool to see the cycle of our food chain. Growing up in Western society, only those who grow up on and around farms are really privy to this sort of cycle. The rest of us, myself included, pick our free range, organic chicken breasts from a neat display in a freezer, wrapped in cellophane and Styrofoam.

I watched Ibrahim offer a prayer of thanks and then his gentle hand swiped the throat. A few hours later we were eating chicken nuggets, chicken curry and quite a surprise, watermelon that had been carried all the way up here on a Porter's back for desert!!

Ibrahim is an amazing cook, and we have had great meals ranging from Chinese noodles, to local Pakistani food, to American pancakes, and cheesy loaded Prathas (kind of like quesadillas), we are not suffering in the food department!
